  The home (in 1881) of William Carter, son of John Carter and Ann Pickering (1828-1895).    William left the family home at Kilnwick, relatively young and moved to Hull, residing at 6 Walters Terrace, West Parade, Hull, Yorkshire.   

   In the 1881 census he was shown as being employed with the then North Eastern Railways as a porter.   At the age of 27 he was still unmarried.  The place name remains as at 2002.

   However by 1891 he had married Susannah born in Lincolnshire 1855.  This couple had at least one child; 

The 1891 census shows the family to be residing at 

Hessle Railway Cottages c.2002 Railway Cottage, Hessle.   William's occupation being that of a 'Railway Worker'.
