The
above photo is of the northern entrance to the town: 'the medieval North Bar'.
It was one of five gateways protecting the entrance to the town and was
supported by a drawbridge, as Beverley was surrounded by a defensive
ditch. Most of Beverley's North Bar area is Georgian and
Victorian. This was home
to Elizabeth
Ann Billany born 1874, Hull. When the family returned to Hull in early
1891, Elizabeth stayed in Beverley, working as a servant, an under housemaid, at
Beverley Bar (Without)
