Henry Walter Utton

Henry Walter Utton was born at Hull in 1885 one of three children of Netta Billany and Henry Utton (1861-1896).  Henry W Utton b.c. 1885, Albert Utton b.c. 1888, and John A Utton b.c. 1890

In 1891 at the Hull Census, Walter is shown residing with his mother Netty, at 9 Alberts Terrace, Hull.   Father a fisherman was presumed to be away at sea at this time.

Henry Walter Utton had married Lilian Barker in 1911 at Hull Yorkshire - they resided at 11, Albion Avenue, Courtney St., Holderness Rd, Hull.  Henry Walter enlisted on 10th May 1915 into the 4th Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment .

   Before the commencement of WW1,  he had been a wood-turner (Machinist).    In February 1917 he was  drafted to France to join the 12th Battalion of the East Yorkshire Regiment.  The Battle for Arras was about to commence.   

     He took part in numerous attacks on the German Lines.  However during one of the German Counter Attacks he was severely wounded.  When 'C' Company of the 12th Battalion withdrew their positions, Walter Utton was left behind.   On Thursday, 3rd May 1917.  Sergeant Henry Walter Utton was officially posted as Missing in Action (MIA)  He was 32 years old.
