Richard was the eldest son and heir of Arthur Cressey of Scawberry in the County of
Lincolnshire, by his wife, Susanna, daughter of Richard Thorald of Grimsby, Lincolnshire, England.
Aged 34 in 1666, he married ,
Elizabeth, daughter of Michael Monckton of the Isle of Axholme, his first wife by whom he had
one daughter, Susanna. His second wife was Elizabeth, daughter of Thomas
Dowdeswell.
