Northern Pride was one of many large German trawlers built at Bremerhaven for Macfisheries as part of the 1914-18 war reparations.  This vessel sailed from Fleetwood, Lancashire until 1937, when it was transferred to Grimsby.   Original port of registry No. of Pride was LO104, She became Gy 169 on arrival at Grimsby.

Northern Pride was requisitioned from Grimsby,  converted to an "Asdic Trawler" and served in the Royal Navy during the second world war.   David William Cressey was awarded the DSM for services whilst serving aboard this vessel.

Awarded for an act of gallantry whilst serving aboard the Asdic Trawler: LO 104 "Northern Pride".

LO 104 Northern Pride Northern Trawlers Ltd 

January 1941: Involved in a sweep for an Italian submarine which had engaged the anti-submarine trawler Northern Pride, the Italians having recently joined in the Battle of the Atlantic. February 1941: Took the SS Jessmore in tow after she had been damaged in a collision while in convoy but she sank and Scimitar took the forty survivors to Londonderry.

German submarine U-255 attacks Loch Ewe, Scotland-bound convoy RA 53, torpedoing U.S. freighter Executive and freighter Richard Bland at 72°45'N, 11°40'E; the former is abandoned without orders, with the survivors (one Armed Guard sailor and four merchant seamen are lost with the ship) being rescued by British trawlers HMS St. Elstan and HMS Northern Pride. Executive is scuttled. Richard Bland although damaged by a dud torpedo that nevertheless passes clean through the ship, remains with the convoy; she has suffered no casualties (see 10 March).
