     Philip Pickering christened at Holy Trinity, Kingston Upon Hull, Yorkshire, England on 13th November 1854.   The son of George Pickering and Jane Anderson.  His occupation is given as a Steamship Stoker.    He married Mary Marsden at Hull in 1874

He and wife Mary Ann born Hull 1858 had the following five children between 1875 and 1888.

First Child.   Son Walter Pickering born in the Myton District of Hull 1874, birth reference MYT/95/307 and christened at Holy Trinity, Kingston Upon Hull, Yorkshire, England on 28th June 1874.  It is probable that Walter married Priscilla Austwick at Hull in 1895.

Second Child.  Daughter Elizabeth Jane Pickering born in the Myton District of Hull 1877, birth reference MYT/112/261.  Elizabeth married George Donohue at Hull in 1897.

Elizabeth now 23 and married was residing at the family home in 1901 with the following children.  Flor Donohue aged 3, Gert Donohue aged 2, and Violet Donohue 5 months.  Husband George was not present.

 

Third Child.   Daughter Betsey Pickering (Edgar) born in the Myton District of Hull 1880, birth reference MYT/123/356.  Betsy married Fred Edgar at Hull in 1898.

Fourth Child.   Son Philip Pickering born in the Myton District of Hull 1880, birth reference MYT/153/387.   It is probable that Philip married Lilla Hammond at Hull in 1908.

Fifth Child.   Daughter Ada Emma Pickering born in the Myton District of Hull 1888, birth reference MYT/165/122.   It is probable that Ada married Henry Grantham at Hull in 1908.

     At the Holy Trinity census, Hull in 1891 this family are shown to be residing at: 

Edwins Place, Porter St 12 Edwins Place, Porter St, Hull Yorkshire.  Philip Pickering's occupation is given as a Steamship Stoker.  Son Walter is stated to be a Steamship Steward.

At the census of 1901 the extended family of Philip Pickering complete with numerous grandchildren are residing together in Hull Yorkshire.  Those present were:

 

Philip Pickering 47, Mary Ann Pickering 44,Mary E Marsden (Mary Ann's Mother) 63, son Philip Pickering 15,daughter Ada E Pickering 12, daughter Florence Pickering 9, Son George Hy Pickering 6, daughter Clarie Pickering 4, also present are her daughter Eliza Donohue 23, and her 3 children.
