 Probability that Robert George Osborne b.c. 1811 at Brighton, married Susanna Curtis on  6th June 1839, at All Souls, St Marylebone, Middlesex, London,  England.

This family were residing at St Marylebone, Middlesex at the census of 1851.  Those present with Robert and Susanna were: Daughter Susannah O Osborne aged 13, Daughter Rebecca Os Osborne aged 11, Son Robert G Osborne aged 9 and Ann Curtis aged 55, mother of Susanna Curtis.

Their son-

     

     Robert George Osborne  Christened 20th March 1842 at All Souls, St. Marylebone, London, Middlesex, England.  He became a soldier serving in many countries of the world during the Victorian era.  His trade or profession was that of Hospital Sergeant, 91st Highlanders.

     On the 24th September 1866, at Bombay, India, he married Catherine Organ, a widow, who was born in Bombay India 1848. Witnesses on the marriage document are declared to be:- Witnesses present: Fred Harlington Colour Sergeant,  91st Highlanders, G.F.Kenny Barrack Sergeant.    The minister conducting the service was Minister Joseph Cras(?) R.C.Chaplain.

     This union produced the following eight children during the period 1866 - 1880. 

First Child  Daughter Ada A E Osborne born India 1866.

Second Child.   Son Robert Frederick William Osborne born India 30th March 1868.   Baptized 22 April 1868 by  Alexander Taylor MA Chaplain

Third Child.   Daughter Alice Maude Osborne born Dover, Kent England in 1871. 

Fourth Child.   Son Alfred G Osborne born Aldershot, Hampshire, England in 1872.  

Fifth Child.   Daughter Mabel Osborne born Newry No 1, Armagh, Ireland 11th September 1874.

Sixth Child.   Daughter Minnie Osborne born Newry, Armagh, Ireland in 1876.

Seventh Child.   Daughter Grace Osborne born 18th October 1878  Newry, Armagh, Ireland.    Grace married David William Cressey (1874-1936)  at Sculcoates (ref 9d343) in Dec 1898.    Grace died at Hull, East Yorkshire on the 8th May 1936 and is buried at the Western Cemetery, Hull.

Eighth Child.   Son Henry A Osborne born 1880  Aldershot, Hampshire, England.

     During the period 1865-68 this family were resident with the military in Bombay India. Under the auspices of the Presidency of Bombay.

 

 

 

 

     Dover Castle

During the period 1869- 1872 the family were resident with the military at Dover and Aldershot.

     

 

 

In 1873 the family were resident at Newry in Ireland serving with the British Forces, returning to Aldershot in England during 1880.

 Royal Victoria Hospital

In 1881 this family is recorded as residing at the "Royal Victoria Hospital" Netley & Adj Buildings, Census Place: Hound, Hampshire, England.

     Robert George Osborne is listed as a Mess Steward (Soldier).
