Tomas Edgar born Poole Dorset in 1796 married Ann Edgar born Fontmell, Dorset, England in 1806, this union produced the following children between 1840-1850

 

John Edgar born at Poole in Dorset c.1840

Frederick Edgar born at Poole in Dorset c.1843

Amelia Edgar  born at Poole in Dorset c.1845 - Amelia married at Poole in 1867.

Lucy Edgar  born at Poole in Dorset c.1848 - Lucy married at Poole in 1866.

Albert Edgar     born at Poole in Dorset c.1850 

1861 finds the family residing at Poole in Dorset - Tomas is shown as being a Shipwright.  However from this time on there is no trace of this family on any UK census other than Albert.  The suspicions are that they emigrated to South Africa. (Still researching)

In 1871 Son Albert is found aboard the fishing trawler "Neva" sailing out of Hull, employed as a fisherman.

Albert  married Catherine (Kate) Turner born Hull c.1859 in 1874 at Hull, this union produced at least eight children between 1875 and 1889.

In 1881 at the Census place: Holy Trinity, Kingston upon Hull, Yorkshire, Albert was described as a Fisherman and residing with his wife and four of his children at 3 Bartler Entry, Whitefriargate, Hull, East Yorkshire.

     In 1891 Albert was residing with his wife and family at 10 Gillette Street, Hull, East Yorkshire.   His occupation was described as a "Skipper".  There were now eight children in the family.

First Child.   Son Albert Edgar born Humber district of Sculcoates, Hull, East Yorkshire in 1875, birth reference HUM/21/396.   He married Dec qtr 1893. (Ref Hull Sculcoates 9d298)

Second Child.   Daughter Minnie A. Edgar born Humber district of Sculcoates, Hull, East Yorkshire in 1876, birth reference HUM/22/140.     Minnie married Arthur Storr at Hull in Dec qtr 1893. (Ref Hull Sculcoates 9d443).

Fourth Child.   Son Walter Edgar born Humber district of Sculcoates, Hull, East Yorkshire in 1878, birth reference HUM/23/462. Walter married Annie Ellis in 1901 at Hull.

Sixth Child.   Son William Edgar born Humber district of Sculcoates, Hull, East Yorkshire in 1883, birth reference HUM/25/23.  It would appear that William married Emma Cook at Hull in 1904.

Seventh Child.  John Edgar born Humber district of Sculcoates, Hull, East Yorkshire in 1886, birth reference HUM/26/98.  John appears to have married Agnes Siddle at Hull in 1906.

This couple had the following nine children between 1898 - 1917.  

At the census of 1901 this family were found to be residing at 5 Lizzies Terrace, Hessle Road, Hull.

          First Child.   Son Freddie Edgar born Hessle district of Hull, East Yorkshire in 1898, birth reference HES/39/42.  Fred was not to survive (Death Index: 1837-1983)

 

          Second Child.  Daughter Olive (Edgar) Warrington born Hessle district of Hull, East Yorkshire in 1899, birth reference HES/43/48.

 

          Third Child.   Daughter Katherine (Kate) (Edgar) Brooks born Hessle district of Hull, East Yorkshire in 1901, birth reference HES/49/78.

 

Fourth Child.   Son Philip A. Edgar born Hessle district of Hull, East Yorkshire in 1903, birth reference HES/52/190

 

      Fifth Child.   Daughter Ada (Edgar) McCollin/Cowling born Hessle district of Hull, East Yorkshire in 1906, birth reference HES/63/95

 

   Sixth Child.   Daughter Lilian(Lilly) (Edgar) Thompson born Hessle district of Hull, East Yorkshire in 1907, birth reference HES/67/183

 

  Seventh Child.    Son Arthur Edgar born Hessle district of Hull, East Yorkshire in 1910, birth reference HES/75/93

 

   

Eighth Child.   Daughter Minnie (Edgar) Dry 1914-1997.  Born Drypool district of Hull,  Yorkshire in 1914, birth reference DRY/110/262.

 

Ninth Child.   Daughter Florence Alma (Edgar) Cressey 1917- 2000 born Hessle district of Hull, Yorkshire in 1917, birth reference HES/97/230.

 

 

     Fred died 1st December 1934 aged 56.   He was buried in the Western Cemetery on 6th December 1934 - burial No 68988.    Betsy died 8th March 1961 aged 81 years.  She is buried alongside her husband - burial 89837.   The graves contained within Western Cemetery, Hull  were visited on 10 Aug 2001.   No headstones remain.
