Daughter and one of six children of
Grace Osbourne and David
William Cressey. Born in the Hessle district of Hull under
reference HES/54/127 in 1903. Early life was spent in the Hessle Road area of
Hull and as a young child schooled at Scarborough Street School, Hessle Road,
Hull.
In 1928,
Grace married Herbert Verrity

Early married life was spent at
Hessle, residing at 31 Northolme Road,
Hessle, East Yorkshire. This
union produced the following two children between 1930 and 1937.
First
Child. Daughter Jean Verrity born 1930 at Hessle
district of Hull, Yorkshire. Birth registration HES/130/160.
Jean married Edward George Berridge at All
Saints Church, Hessle, East
Yorkshire, England on the 18th June 1949. Jean moved from Yorkshire to
reside in the south of England.
Second
Child. Son Roy Verrity born Hull, East Yorkshire
1937. Sadly Roy was not to survive
Herbert fought in the First World
War being involved at the Battle of the Somme, and he donated 8 hours of tapes
to the Imperial War Museum.
In August 1939 Grace and Herbert
took responsibility for Edward, a young baby, the son of
Arthur Cressey and his
wife Hilda May Coates. (Hilda May having sadly died in 1939).
During the Second World War
Herbert was a shunter in Hull, shunting munitions trains.
In 1950 Grace and Herbert left Hessle, East Yorkshire to reside in the South of England.
Young Edward moved to the
south of England with Grace and Herbert and stayed with them until 1957 when he emigrated
to New Zealand. He was 18 years old.
Herbert
worked at Epsom Railway Station until 1963 when he retired. He lived
to be 96, as did Grace.
