     Born on the 24th June 1917, birth registered in the Hessle district of Hull, Yorkshire under reference HES/97/230.

The youngest daughter one of nine children from the union of Betsey Pickering and Fred Edgar.  She married on the 4th November 1935 at the age of 18 to

David William Cressey, a fisherman.    They had two  boys, David and Trevor. During this period the family resided at Edith Grove, Brighton Street, Hull.   When WWII was declared Dave as she called him joined the RNVR (Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve) and served as an naval officer with distinction during the war years, being awarded the DSM for services above and beyond.  He was 22 years old.

      Floss and the boys resided with Floss's mother (Betsey Edgar) at 12 Subway Street, Hull from 1939 through most of the war years.     However on many occasions Floss moved around the country with Husband and Family.  Whichever port Bill was sailing out of, be it Lowestoft, Belfast, Newcastle or where ever; she would be there to support him.

     After the war years the family resided at 15 Hampshire Street, HullMarilyn was born in 1946.  In 1948, they moved to Northolme Road, Hessle.    When the family had grown and fled the nest,  Floss and Bill moved to Goole to be closer to Marilyn, and their grand children, however, in 1984, Dave who had been ill for some time died, Floss returned to live in Hessle and for the next fifteen years lived a life of moderate independence.

     On the 30th March 2000, Florence became ill and was admitted to the Hull Royal Infirmary where she died on the morning of the eleventh of April 2000.   The funeral was attended by family and friends on Friday 14th April 2000.   Cremation took place at the Haltemprice Crematorium, Willerby, East Yorks.
