Marr Elizabeth was born at Monument Cottage Sledmere,  York, England in c.1868, a lovely, picturesque Village that nestles quietly in the rolling hills of the Yorkshire Wolds, famous for its stately home, Sledmere House.

Known to modern day members of her family as, 'Grandma Condon'.   As a young adult it was said that she worked as a serving girl for many years at Sledmere House.   Many of the villagers were and still are, employed on the estate in one form or another.

However, at the census of 1881 Marr Elizabeth is found at the age of thirteen to be a servant, residing with George R.S. Jackson his wife Amelia M.A. Jackson and their five children at Albion House, Albion Street, Great Driffield, York, England. George Jackson was a bookseller and printer of Driffield.
