They had two
children, Judith Ann, Born 14th August 1942 and Geraldine
born 18th April
1947. They lived in Richmond Road,
Hessle.
In the late 50s Doris opened a Guest House for Commercial Travelers at Ferriby Road,
Hessle, Richard continued to work
for the local council.
Doris was tee-total and a non-smoker, although she gave the
impression of being a very hard person, " A spade is a spade", she was in fact quite
generous.
In 1964 after selling
the guest house at Hessle, Doris and Richard had a short period of living in
Hull, before returning to Hessle to live at South
Lane. Her life tragically ended in the garden of
South Lane, Hessle, when she suffered a terminal stroke. Doris died 23rd May 1978 at Hull General Hospital
and was cremated in Hull.
Tragically her father-in-law (Richard Carter) who she had cared for, for many years died suddenly
3 days later. There were two funerals from the same
house within the same week.
