Introduction - Potted History- Beginnings

The Beckett family is traced from the late 17th, early eighteenth century, originating from Norfolk, England.

          William Berry Beckett, b.c.1806  (Bapt 20th January 1806) Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.   The fourth child of William Draper Beckett and Ann Berry.  William married Martha Mollett (1804-1876) by licence at Norwich St. Clements, on the 26th November 1827.  Witnesses to this marriage were Maria Beckett, John Littleboy, WD Beckett and Kezia Martin. Martha died 14th May 1876 in Norwich St Pauls.   

They were residing at the following address in the year 1844:  Cowgate, St James, Norwich.

  Between 1830-1846 this couple had the following children.

First Child.   Son William Rising Beckett (1830-1866) at Norwich, Norfolk.  Occupation was a Cordwinder. 

Second Child.   Son Charles Mollett Beckett (1831-1890) at Norwich, Norfolk.  Occupation was a Chairmaker. 

Third Child.   Daughter Georgiana Beckett (1833-1880) at Dereham, Norwich, Norfolk.  Occupation was a Servant.  

Fourth Child.   Son Thomas Beckett b.c.1836 at London St George Middlesex.   At the census of 1881, Thomas is found residing on his own at 14 Elm Terrace, Hull, Yorkshire, England.  Occupation was a Cordwinder.

Fifth Child.      Daughter Ann Beckett (1837-1845)  Norwich St. Clements, Norfolk.

Sixth Child.   Henry Mollett Beckett (1839-1844) Norwich, Norfolk. (Bapt 19th March 1842)

Seventh Child.   Son Alfred Mollett Beckett b.c. 1842, Norwich, Norfolk.  

Eighth Child.   Son Samuel Beckett born 2nd March 1846, St Peter's Hungate, Norwich, Norfolk.     Died 1851.   Burial: December 1851, Norwich St. Clements

Ninth Child.   Daughter Martha Beckett (1846-1846) Norwich St. Clements, Norfolk.     

                        At the census of 1851 Martha (1804-1876) was found residing with her family at  Oak Street, St Martin At Oak Norwich, Norfolk.   There is no trace of William Berry Beckett at this time.

However in the 1871 census William and Martha are found to be residing  at 5 Scotts Place,Sculcoates, Hull .

 William died 9th march 1877 age 72 in Sculcoates Union Workhouse from Paralysis.
