Introduction - Potted History- Beginnings

The Beckett family is traced from the late 17th, early eighteenth century, originating from Norfolk, England.

Son William Draper Beckett born 11th May 1754 at Great Yarmouth second child of William Draper and Rachel. William married (1) Ann Berry (1777-1806) on 16th July 1799 at Bury St Edmonds, Suffolk, and (2) Sarah Priscilla Hooke (1785-1839) on the 27th June 1813 at Gt Yarmouth. William had a total of twelve children, 4 children by his first marriage and 8 children by his second, between 1801 - 1824. William died in 1833 and was buried 17th March 1833.

First Child. Daughter Mary Ann Beckett b. 10 July 1801, (Bapt 13 July 1801) Great Yarmouth, Norfolk. Mary married James Whales on the 8th February 1824, at St. Nicholas, Great Yarmouth.

Second Child. Daughter Sarah Beckett (1803-1803), (Bapt 16 March 1803) Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.

Third Child. Daughter Maria Beckett, b. 3 July 1804, (Bapt 28 July 1804) Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.

Fourth Child. Son William Berry Beckett, b. 2 January 1806, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.

Second Marriage

Fifth Child. Daughter Sarah Beckett, b. 1813, (Bapt. 8 July 1813) Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.

Sixth Child. Son Joseph Stannard Beckett (1816-1819), (Bapt. 2nd December 1816) Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.

Seventh Child. Daughter Marymore Beckett, b. 1818, (Bapt. 3rd July 1818) Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.

Eighth Child. Daughter Martha Newson Beckett, b. 1819, (Bapt. 2nd February 1820) Great Yarmouth, Norfolk. Martha married Benjamin Mathews, on 24th May 1840, at St. Nicholas, Great Yarmouth.

Ninth Child. Son Henry Martin Beckett, b. c. 1820, Great Yarmouth.

Tenth Child. Son Benjamin Hook Beckett, b.c. 1821, (Bapt. 29th December 1821) Great Yarmouth, Norfolk. Benjamin is shown on the 1841 census: residing at, North End, Great Yarmouth.

Eleventh Child. Son James Beckett, b.c. 1823, Bapt. 17th January 1823) Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.

Twelfth Child. Son Samuel Hook Beckett, b. c. 1824, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk. It is probable that Samuel a Tailor married Elizabeth born Yarmouth c. 1826. This union had the following children.

First Child. Son Samuel Beckett born Yarmouth c. 1847.

Second Child. Son Benjamin Beckett born Yarmouth c. 1849.

At the census of 1851 this family were residing at Row 138, Dog & Duck Row, Great Yarmouth
