Introduction - Potted History- Beginnings

The Beckett family is traced from the late 17th, early eighteenth century, originating from Norfolk,England.   

 Mary Beckett 1757-1804 (Bapt. 2 January 1757) Gt Yarmouth, Norfolk.  The first child of John and Martha.   Mary married John Goodwin on the 24th March 1783 in St. Nicholas, Great Yarmouth.  This union produced the following nine children between 1784-1800.

First Child.  Son John Goodwin, b. 6th January 1784, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.

Second Child.   Daughter Mary Goodwin, b. 30th October 1785, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.  (Bapt 24th November 1785)

Third Child.    Daughter Martha Goodwin, b. 15th June 1787, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.   (Bapt 25th June 1787)

Fourth Child.    Daughter Susannah Goodwin, b. 10th August 1788, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.   (Bapt 20th August 1788)

Fifth Child.   Daughter Ann Goodwin, b. 9th August 1790, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.   (Bapt 24 August 1790)

Sixth Child.   Daughter Susannah Goodwin (1792-1798), b. 30th November 1792, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk. (Bapt 15 December 1792) Died 1798 Infant

Seventh Child.   Son Richard Bacon Goodwin(1795-1796), b. 6 March 1795, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.   (Bapt 17 March 1795)

Eighth Child.   Son Richard Bacon Goodwin, b. 21st January 1797, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.   (Bapt 31 January 1797)

Ninth Child.    Son William Goodwin, b. c.1800, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.   William married Hannah b.c.1803 at Yarmouth.   William was declared to be a Ships Cauker.   

This couple had the following known children. 

First Child.   Son Alfred Goodwin b.c.1833 at Yarmouth.

Second Child.   Son George Goodwin b. c.1837 at Yarmouth. 

At the census of 1851 this family were residing at East Hill Gt Yarmouth.

At the census of 1861 William c.1800 and Hannah were  residing at Albion Road, Gt Yarmouth, youngest son George is also present, age 23 employed as a ships Cutler.
