Introduction - Potted History- Beginnings

Settrington/Scagglethorpe are quiet villages at the foot of the Wolds close  to Norton/Malton in North Yorkshire.     

       Robert Bean was b.c. 1782 christened 15th December 1782 in Scagglethorpe in Settrington, North Yorkshire.     The second son of William Bean and Margaret Cowthert.   On 8th February 1810 he married Elizabeth Sherwood born 6th May 1776 at Lastingham, North Yorkshire.  Elizabeth was the daughter of Samuel Sherwood and Bella Simpson.

This couple had the following seven children between  1811-1828. 

First Child.   Daughter Bella  Bean b.c.1811,Christened 29th December 1811, Normanby, North Yorkshire 

Second Child.     Son John Bean b.c.1813, christened 21st November 1813, Malton, North Yorkshire. John married Elizabeth b.c. 1818 at Thornton le Clay, North Yorkshire.   

At the census of 1881, this couple are shown as residing at Kirby Misperton, North Yorkshire.

Third Child.   Daughter Hannah Bean b.c.1816, Christened 2nd June 1816 at Malton, North Yorkshire. 

Fourth Child.    Son Robert  Bean b.c.1818, Christened 31st May 1818, Malton, North Yorkshire 

Fifth Child.    Daughter Ann Bean b.c.1821, Christened 26th August 1821, Malton, North Yorkshire 

Sixth Child.     Son George Bean b.c.1823,  Malton, North Yorkshire.  It is probable that at the 1881 census George is residing at the 'Old Moor House', Burythorpe, North Yorkshire.   With him, his wife Carolina b. 1823 at Halifax, Yorkshire and their daughter Selina b.c. 1879, Malton North Yorkshire.

Seventh Child.  Son David Bean b.c.1828, Christened 2nd March 1828, Malton, North Yorkshire
