Introduction - Potted History- Beginnings

Settrington/Scagglethorpe are quiet villages at the foot of the Wolds close  to Norton/Malton in North Yorkshire.     

       Robert Bean was b.c. 1752-1803 in Scagglethorpe in Settrington, North Yorkshire.  Christened on 13th December 1752.    The fourth son of Robert Bean (b.c. 1719) and Margaret Munkman.   He married Mary Wood on the 1st August 1778 in Wintringham, North Yorkshire.  This couple had the following Ten children between  1780-1799.  

Robert Bean died 1803 and was buried 15th February 1803.

First Child.  Daughter Hannah Bean b.c.1780, Scagglesthorpe, North   Yorkshire.   Christened 11th June 1780.

Second Child.      Daughter Margaret Bean b.c.1782, Scagglesthorpe, North Yorkshire.   Christened 11th March 1782.

Third Child.   Daughter Ann Bean b.c.1783, Scagglesthorpe, North Yorkshire.    Christened 25th November 1783.

Fourth Child.    Daughter Ann Bean, b.c. 1784,Christened 30th November 1784 in Scagglethorpe in Settrington, North Yorkshire.  On 13th November 1803, she married Thomas Harburn b.c. 1778. 

Fifth Child.    Son  Thomas Bean b.c. 1786 christened 4th April 1786 in Scagglethorpe in Settrington, North Yorkshire.  On 25th November 1817 at Pickering North Yorkshire he married Mary Bielby b.c. 1785.  This couple had at least one child, Jane Bean b.c. 1818 christened at Pickering 20th December 1818.   

Thomas and Mary were residing at Pickering, North Yorkshire at the census of 1851.

Sixth Child.      Daughter  Mary Bean b.c. 1789-1812.    Christened 31st December 1789 Scagglethorpe in Settrington, North Yorkshire.  Mary Bean was buried 14th April 1812.*

Seventh Child.   Son Robert Bean, b.c. 1792 christened 17th October 1792 in Scagglethorpe in Settrington, North Yorkshire.

Eighth Child.   Son John Bean, b.c. 1795 christened 4th February 1795 in Scagglethorpe in Settrington, North Yorkshire.

 Ninth Child.   Daughter Rachel Bean b.c. 1797-1812.    Christened 19th March 1797 Scagglethorpe in Settrington, North Yorkshire.  Rachel Bean was buried 13th March 1812.*

Tenth Child.    Son John Bean, b.c. 1799 Christened 24th May 1799 in Scagglethorpe in Settrington, North Yorkshire.
